American League of Lobbyists Offer Certification

Overview

Founded by the American League of Lobbyists in 2006, the Lobbying Certificate Program (LCP) certifies that government relations professionals possess in-depth knowledge of legislative and political processes, and comprehension of the rules, regulations and ethics that shape lobbying requirements.

Comprehensive Training

Students in the program are guided by American"s top lobbying experts. The program offers mastery of government operations and the legislative process, and practical know-how for getting results while operating under the 2007 Honest Leadership and Open Government Act and the 1995 Lobbying Disclosure Act.

The Lobbying Certificate Program strengthens the skills of government relations personnel in lobbying firms, corporations, and not-for-profit organizations. Novice lobbyists gain expertise it might otherwise take years to acquire, while experienced lobbyists can update their skills in new ethical and regulatory areas as they earn professional certification-and recognition as leaders in the federal lobbying community.

The program includes five core sessions plus a choice of eight electives.  Certification requires completion of the core sessions plus six electives.  Government relations staff not seeking full certification can attend individual sessions as needed to enhance their skills and update their knowledge in specific areas of lobbying.

In D.C. or by Teleconference

Each month, the Lobbying Certificate Program offers at least one session. All sessions are held in Washington, D.C., but are also offered by teleconference for individuals living or working outside the DC metro area.
